Bend charter review committee leaning towards elected mayor
The committee looking at several changes to the City of Bend Charter met yesterday. The group said they were in favor of having an elected mayor instead of one picked by the councilors, and will put that before the city council as one of their recommendations. The committee is still split on moving to a ward system for council members. With the ward system, a council member would represent a geographic area in Bend. The committee will meet again September 12th. Any suggestions made by the group would have to be voted on by the council then go to the voters, probably next May.
